Recycled wool

Recycled wool represents one of the oldest forms of textile recycling, with a heritage dating back centuries in traditional European textile centers. What makes recycled wool particularly fascinating is its combination of environmental benefits with unique performance characteristics distinct from virgin wool. This material is created through mechanical recycling of pre-consumer waste (factory scraps) or post-consumer items (used garments), which are sorted by color, shredded back into fiber form, and respun into new yarn. The process uses significantly less energy, water, and chemicals than virgin wool production while eliminating the need for additional dyeing when color-sorted properly. In consumer goods, recycled wool appears in premium outerwear, blankets, accessories, and home textiles, often with a distinctive visual texture and character. The material typically creates a slightly more rustic aesthetic while maintaining wool’s natural insulation, moisture management, and biodegradability. As luxury brands increasingly emphasize sustainability, recycled wool has transitioned from a cost-saving measure to a desirable material in its own right, celebrated for both environmental credentials and authentic character in premium consumer products.
